Technology touches nearly every part of our lives—from how we work and learn to how we connect. But how does all this screen time affect our minds?
We sat down with Courtney Woods, founder of PC Empowerment and PC Media Techs, to talk about balance, burnout, and building healthier digital habits for students, families, and professionals.
From Passion to Purpose
Courtney’s love for computers started early. What began as curiosity with old-school dial-up internet evolved into PC Media Techs, a design agency now celebrating 10 years in business.
“I would come home every day feeling completely overwhelmed,” Courtney shared. “That’s when I started researching information overload and digital fatigue—and learning how to recognize the triggers before reaching that point.”
That journey inspired the creation of PC Empowerment, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about digital mental health and helping others find balance in an always-connected world.

💡Why Digital Mental Health Matters for Youth
Today’s students face challenges previous generations never imagined.
“You’ve grown up with technology in your hands since childhood,” Courtney explained. “It’s important to understand how that impacts your self-esteem and your decision-making.”
From doom-scrolling to cyber-bullying, she reminds youth to be mindful of their digital habits and how constant exposure affects their mental health. Awareness, she says, is the first step toward balance.
Words of Wisdom for Future Creators
When asked what advice she’d give to students interested in technology or design, Courtney’s message is simple yet powerful:
“Play around, research, and stay curious. Every business and organization needs creativity and marketing. Learn early and don’t be afraid to explore.”
Through PC Media Techs’ Marketing Apprenticeship, she gives students hands-on experience in tech and creative communication—equipping the next generation to lead confidently in a digital world.
Making a Difference, One Project at a Time
One of Courtney’s proudest moments came from helping a small local nonprofit grow into a national organization.
“Watching their mission expand and knowing I helped bring that vision to life online—it reminded me why this work matters.”
Behind every screen, there’s a story of connection, creativity, and impact—and Courtney’s story reminds us how digital tools, when used with purpose, can strengthen communities.

Pause before you scroll. Notice when you’re checking your phone out of habit.
Set boundaries. Try tech-free meals or screen-free time before bed.
